The Veterans Pickleball Association, Inc, (VPA), a newly formed 501c3 non-profit charity, announced their mission on Independence Day to enrich the physical, mental and competitive lives of Veterans, Wounded Warriors, Purple Heart Combat recipients and their family members through the sportsmanship, camaraderie and lifestyle of the fastest growing sport in the world…PICKLEBALL.
“Starting In the fall of 2024, the VPA Tour will host and partner with amateur and professional qualifying tournaments, fundraising wheelchair and adaptive exhibitions, Celebrity Pro-Ams and clinics across the country, culminating annually with the VPA Armed Forces Pickle Bowl National Championships set for the fall of 2025, stated Carl Foster, USAF Vietnam Veteran and founder of the new VPA Tour.
George Domaceti, a USN Special Services Purple Heart veteran, and founding VPA Board member added, "I am thrilled to join long time friend, business partner and fellow veteran, Carl Foster, in expanding our pickleball businesses with the World Pickleball Convention,Conferences and TV Shows to incorporate the VPA Tour. This is a perfect way for us to be able to offer our fellow veterans and first responders worldwide their own competitive platform from beginner to professional, male or female, and all skill levels.
“Pickleball is a great game for everyone and veterans, like others, can benefit greatly from the physical, social and competitive aspects of the game,” said USAF Vietnam Veteran, James C. Wilhelm, founding VPA Board member “For those who are getting older and finding other games hard to play because of various health problems like me, or other issues, pickleball provides a great athletic option and mentally very enriching to be able to exercise and compete again.”
Douglas Marburger, USMC Veteran and founding VPA Board member added, “It’s very important for everyone to stay active in whatever way works best for their lifestyle and interests. Pickleball, like tennis and a few other games, offers a fast way to get a workout, get outside and most importantly develop and maintain personal relationships. And the time spent with friends and teammates is vital to emotional well-being.”
Foster also stated, “We will be utilizing over four decades of sports event management experience and relationships, hosting and producing national broadcast television programs, operating world leaders and pickleball conferences to build a legacy of servant leadership by creating a physical and mentally healing platform for our veterans and first responders with Pickleball.”
